We all get motivated at times especially when the conditions are putting a smile on our face and we know that we are about to get challenged doing something that we love so much. Getting Ocean Fitness when the waves are chest high and clean or when the wind is blowing 20 and the head high peaks are rolling on the sandbar is why we do it for sure. The real challenge comes when the wind is blowing out of the wrong direction for any meaningful session and the temperatures have dropped and you know that first plunge is going to give you an ice cream headache and your tired because you have some stress from our day to day lives. You must find an activity that is practical on those days and that can be done efficiently. One way to find the motivation is to keep it very simple and remember why we do these ocean sports for fitness , both the physical and the mental benefits that keep us going forward. Another way to find the motivation is set goals on all or your ocean fitness activities whether you are logging on a small day or doing some exercise routine on your paddle board back in some quiet creek. Most of all get creative to find your motivation on one of those days when you certainly are not feeling inspired and do whatever you have to do. One small step at a time can build so much momentum and keep your fitness level up . Ocean athletes always feel better after their session no matter how they felt going into it.
Finding motivation by keeping it simple and remember why we do these sports is very important. Working out in the ocean first thing in the morning when no one is around is very spiritual and uplifting but can be lonely for sure. If you play in the ocean to simply get attention you won’t find it when the sun is coming up on a cold morning and you are the only one out . Many days have become inspiring when I did not expect anything to be to exciting as I am going through the motions, but then all of a sudden a flock of black skimmers come flying by and you see the natural beauty all around you and your energy level seems to rise up out of nowhere. Or when you leave the house in the morning and don’t expect any waves on your early morning paddle and when you come walking over the dunes and you encounter a fun little wave that is peeling off perfectly . All these sessions start to add up and your fitness level gets better and the momentum just starts to build.
Finding motivation through goal setting is very rewarding and there are so many challenges to tackle especially when doing multiple ocean sports . Stand up paddling is amazing in that it offers so many different facets to explore as it is like having four or five sports in one. Do you want to surf, paddle downwind, paddle flat water or go find that quiet spot out in the wilderness to do a fitness or yoga routine that offers unlimited options and challenges. So many goals that can be achieved whether it is your time you are measuring as you prepare for a race or the cross stepping you are working while you are surfing the waves. Work on that kiteloop as you boost big while kiting . Set goals but be consistent in your approach and again your fitness levels will rise by the day. I get inspired when I see Ocean athletes work at their craft for the right reasons. I love to see a soulful waterman or woman that handle themselves in this way as there are many of them as Ocean fitness just continues to grow.
Finding motivation no matter what it takes. Get creative . Invest in water proof music as we all know how helpful some tunes are . Find motivational you tube video’s that you can watch as you are preparing for your morning session. Call a friend that is as determined as you and push each other. Most of all don’t over think it. Just choose your method of Ocean Fitness and just go for it. Usually once you get started you start to flow. Action precedes motivation for sure .
